Lagavulin 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch

The Lagavulin 16 year old single malt is a king among whiskys: deep and bold, richly peaty and wonderfully complex. The Lagavulin Distillery (as we know it today) dates back to 1816 and carries with it a history and tradition that defines the Islay (pronounced EYE-luh) region of Scotland and sets the tone against which all other Islay Scotches are judged. Lagavulin 16 year old is one of the Classic Malts of Scotland, representing the heart and soul of the Islay region.

On the nose, the 16 year old single malt is immediately recognizable for its heavy smoke, creamy vanilla, and spices. The palate backs that up with a well-defined balance of Sherry sweetness and peat smoke leading to a long and lingering finish of vanilla, spices, and candied dates. The peaty notes are not overly dry, retaining a subtle earthiness that recalls the sodden landscape of southern Islay. Every glass is an experience from start to finish, and it best enjoyed neat with just a few drops of water to help unpack all of the subtle notes floating dreamily in each pour.
